CCN presents its Student Seminar Series! Inaugural presentation by Christopher Fong, “Resting state network differentiation in children and adolescents with ASD” on Monday, November 7th.
“Early-childhood clinicians such as pediatricians and child psychologists are often the first to raise the alarm for families with children who exhibit developmental disorders, such as fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD). But pediatricians usually aren’t specialists, and the hallmarks of FASD can be subtle. A new tool developed by neuropsychologists at San Diego State University could make it easier for doctors to recognize signs that might indicate an FASD diagnosis and recommend more precise screening.”
The Center for Clinical and Cognitive Neuroscience is pleased to sponsor an AFNI Bootcamp in MRI data processing and analysis. AFNI is a free and widely used software package for processing, analyzing, and displaying MRI data to map the structure and function of the human brain.
The goal of the four-day workshop is to offer brain imagers, with novice to advanced skills, expert instruction in techniques for, and developments in, MRI data analysis. The course will be taught by three of the software’s developers.

The goal of this NIH-funded brain imaging study project is to identify brain markers of risk for autism.
We will ask you to visit an MRI research center, where we can obtain images of your child’s brain, while she or he is naturally asleep. The scans will take place late in the evenings when your child is usually asleep. MRI is non-invasive and completely safe, and can provide us with critical information about how your child’s brain is developing at this critical period when autism symptoms first emerge (in comparison to children with no such diagnosis).

The Center for Clinical and Cognitive Neuroscience has been allocated funds from VP Welter’s office to start a small “pilot grant” program within our Center. The purpose of the pilot grants is to foster new between‐lab collaborations by members of our area of excellence. One important goal of this program is to provide critical seed funding that will allow new collaborative endeavors to result in the submission of larger extramural grant proposals.
